Mission

The Right to Repair Campaign (R2RC) is the response of the independent repairers of motor vehicles to the activity of the Vehicle Assemblers who are actively lobbying for legislation in Europe that would drive repair work into their franchised dealerships.

Independent garage successfully challenges Ford on BER PDF Print E-mail

We were pleased to hear this good news recently from an independent garage.  The proprietor was approached by one of his customers who required a service on a ‘54’ Mondeo that he had recently purchased.  This was to be no problem except that the customer advised the independent that Ford had clearly stated to him that “if the service was to be carried out by anyone other than a Ford authorised repairer the warranty would be invalidated!

Being a staunch supporter of BER but not having directly come across this before, the independent referred to one of the BER leaflets we had supplied and advised the customer accordingly.  As confirmation that he was within his rights to service the above vehicle he also contacted Ford direct and received the following email from them:

We can confirm in order to maintain the 3 year/60,000 mile Classic warranty for registration **54** the servicing of the vehicle can be carried out by any VAT registered Dealer using genuine Ford branded part and fluids or those that match the quality of the genuine Ford branded parts and fluids.  This information can be found on page 7 of your customers service portfolio.

YOU too can carry out normal maintenance and repair services during the vehicle’s warranty period without invalidating the VA’s warranty – subject to certain conditions!

This is an area where you need to continuously inform your customer base of their rights, and we can help you by supplying copies of our Block Exemption leaflets and poster - just ask your BDE for details.
